Midvale City proudly offers subsidized studio space at the Art House, a creative home for local artist-in-residence Abel and a gathering place for inspiration, expression, and community connection in the heart of the Midvale Main Arts & Culture District. Surrounded by more than 45 vibrant murals, the district pulses with color, creativity, and the authentic spirit that makes Midvale unlike anywhere else.

The Art House is more than a studio. It is a living, evolving creative space where art is made, conversations unfold, ideas are shared, and community comes to life.

Meet the Artist (Abel the Artist website)

Born in Augsburg, Germany, and now creating at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains in Midvale, Utah, Abel is an artist driven by exploration, emotion, and human connection. A summa cum laude graduate of Utah State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, his creative practice moves fluidly between mediums — from mixed-media abstract sculpture to traditional oil painting.

“My creative side has never been able to limit itself to a particular genre. This has been both liberating and challenging.”

Abel’s work embraces experimentation, texture, movement, and storytelling, allowing each piece to evolve naturally through instinct and imagination. During his nine years living in San Diego, he dedicated much of his professional life to art education, helping students of all ages develop both technical skill and creative confidence.

Through teaching, exhibiting, and community engagement, Abel has developed a deep appreciation for the way art can bring people together, spark conversation, and create a sense of belonging.

As Midvale’s artist-in-residence, Abel hopes to create experiences that feel welcoming, inspiring, and deeply connected to the community around him.

Interested artists can rent studio space, gain access to a collaborative work environment, and secure their spot in a shared public art gallery and art shop. This space is ideal for artists looking to be part of an engaging and cooperative environment where creativity can flourish and ideas can come to life.

    Situated on Midvale’s Main Street, a burgeoning hub for arts, culture, and dining along the Wasatch Front, the Midvale Main Art House is a welcoming space for the public, encouraging engagement with the creative process. The building offers approximately 4,791 sq. ft of open space, allowing each artist to personalize their dedicated 8’X8’ area. Security, electricity, internet, onsite restrooms, and cleaning facilities are included. Studio tenants enjoy access, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Studio space rent is set at $200 per month, with a minimum 6-month commitment. Artists occupying this space commit to spending a minimum of 15 hours per week in the studio - 8 during Art House open hours. This commitment includes being onsite one weekend day per month for 4 hours and participating in 3 community-oriented events per term (6 months).

    Artists will be highlighted and promoted on RDA marketing materials, with opportunities to participate in community events such as monthly open studio nights, Trick or Treat on Main, and Light Up Main Street hosted by the RDA. There are additional opportunities to host lectures, workshops, live discussions, and art shows within the space, with the possibility of receiving funding to support these events. Most importantly, artists will have a significant opportunity to make a positive impact on the community. Their active participation plays a vital role in ensuring and propelling an equitable and inclusive revitalization of Midvale’s Main Street.

    Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

    Art House Selection Committee

    The Art House selection committee is responsible for developing and adopting the governing documents, including the policies and procedures that will regulate the Art House. The committee will also be responsible for reviewing and selecting all artists who will occupy the space. Additionally, the committee will work closely with the artists housed in the Art House to develop a schedule, ensuring that there are always two or more artists in the space during open public hours. In doing so, the Art House selection committee will have the ability to modify the open hours to ensure they are conducive to the schedules of the artists and for public visitation. Last but not least, the Selection Committee will also be responsible for selecting art to be displayed to the community.

    Wednesdays: 3:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m

    Thursdays: 3:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m

    Saturdays 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

    Art House Selection Committee
