The Midvale Canal Feasibility Study report will be presented to the City Council on June 5, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. This comprehensive study investigates the viability of constructing two canal-side trail projects within Midvale City, with the aim of enhancing neighborhood and regional connectivity. The proposed trails would run alongside the Jordan and Salt Lake City Canal, as well as the East Jordan Canal.

The primary objective of these trail projects is to provide improved access for residents and visitors who commute to work, travel to school, engage in recreational activities, or need convenient access to key destinations. The feasibility study assesses the project's vision and goals in the context of existing facilities and the recently bolstered statewide vision and financial support for constructing trail networks throughout Utah's neighborhoods and regional destinations.

The report extensively examines the physical challenges that may arise during the construction of the canal-side trails. It proposes appropriate roadway crossings to ensure safe and efficient passage for trail users. Additionally, the study reviews public sentiment and concerns, aiming to address any potential issues and incorporate community feedback into the project's development.

One of the key aspects covered in the report is the cost analysis associated with the implementation of the trail projects. It provides a breakdown of the estimated expenses, including construction, maintenance, and ongoing management. This information will play a crucial role in determining the feasibility and potential funding sources for the proposed trails.

The Midvale Canal Feasibility Study report also outlines the recommended next steps for the trail project's implementation. These steps include further engagement with the community, potential collaborations with relevant stakeholders, and a detailed timeline for design, construction, and completion.

On June 5, the City Council will carefully review the findings and recommendations outlined in the report, considering the benefits and feasibility of the trail projects, and community input. If approved, these trails would not only enhance transportation options but also contribute to a more vibrant and connected community.
