Drinking Water Survey

Midvale City Public Utilities is conducting an inventory of the water service lines in our community. The inventory will identify the material of your service line, including if your service line is made of lead. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized the first major update to the Lead & Copper Rule (LCR) on December 22, 2020. The new rule requires community water systems to prepare and submit an initial service line inventory to the Utah Department of Environmental Quality, Drinking Water Division by October 16, 2024.

Midvale City is requesting your assistance by taking a short survey that will help us to compile a database of the materials used in our customers’ service lines. Thank you for taking a few minutes to complete this survey.

Step 1 - Locate the water service line entering your home

  • Identify the Water Service Line: Look for the main water pipe that enters your home. This pipe is typically located in the basement or on the lowest floor.
  • Check the Diameter: The water service line should be around 3/4'' to 1" in diameter. You can measure it with a tape measure to confirm.
  • Inspect the Entry Point: Locate the point where the water service line comes through the floor or wall. This is often near the water meter with the shutoff valve nearby.

Step 2 - Scratch Test

Watch the Determining Service Line Material Scratch Test video to determine your service line material.
