Past planning efforts and successful events on Midvale’s Main Street have positioned the City to begin planning for improvements to this historic street. This study aims to capture the community’s vision for how the street and public spaces can better contribute to a vibrant downtown, encourage safe walking and biking, elevate the visibility of businesses, and reinvigorate the street’s sense of identity.

The consultant firm Design Workshop will be engaging the community to develop a concept design for Main Street including landscaping, outdoor lighting, event and public space, wayfinding and signage, mobility improvements, street furniture, and art. The desired outcome is for Main Street to be enlivened as a local destination that is authentic celebrating both the historic feel and recent additions such as murals and food truck events.

Main Street Urban Design Survey

On March 16, 2023, Midvale City hosted Back to the Future: The Future of Main Street at The Pearl on Main Theater. Design Workshop consultants presented a PowerPoint presentation and attendees answered the Main Street Urban Design Survey via polling keypads. If you were unable to attend the event you can still answer the survey. You can also review all of the materials that were presented under the Documents tab to the right.

Project Area

The design team will be studying how Main Street can contribute to a more vibrant downtown with improved mobility for everyone. The focus for urban design improvements of Main Street is bounded by W Center Street and 7th Avenue as shown in the map below.
