Launched in the Spring of 2024, the Art House aims to amplify the cultural richness of Midvale Main by nurturing local talent and celebrating artists. By repurposing an existing City building for affordable art studios and community events, the Art House has become a unique community asset not readily provided by the market. Five studio aritsts currently reside in the the Art House and they welcome you to visit during open hours view their artwork, witness the creative process, and participate in various events and workshops.
If a studio space becomes available, a call for artists will be released every six months inviting community engaged artists to apply for a studio space. Artists are encouraged to apply by providing a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) that includes examples of artwork, a resume or CV, and an Artist Statement including information about why you want studio space in the Art House and how you would engage the community.

The Redevelopment Agency of Midvale City (RDA) is seeking is seeking community oriented artists who aspire to bring arts and creative experiences to Midvale residents and visitors on Main Street. Interested artists can rent studio space, gain access to a collaborative work environment, and secure their spot in a shared public art gallery and art shop. This space is ideal for artists looking to be part of an engaging and cooperative environment where creativity can flourish and ideas can come to life.

Situated on Midvale’s Main Street, a burgeoning hub for arts, culture, and dining along the Wasatch Front, the Midvale Main Art House is a welcoming space for the public, encouraging engagement with the creative process. The building offers approximately 4,791 sq. ft of open space, allowing each artist to personalize their dedicated 8’X8’ area. Security, electricity, internet, onsite restrooms, and cleaning facilities are included. Studio tenants enjoy access, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Studio space rent is set at $200 per month, with a minimum 6-month commitment. Artists occupying this space commit to spending a minimum of 15 hours per week in the studio - 8 during Art House open hours. This commitment includes being onsite one weekend day per month for 4 hours and participating in 3 community-oriented events per term (6 months).
Benefits
Artists will be highlighted and promoted on RDA marketing materials, with opportunities to participate in community events such as monthly open studio nights, Trick or Treat on Main, and Light Up Main Street hosted by the RDA. There are additional opportunities to host lectures, workshops, live discussions, and art shows within the space, with the possibility of receiving funding to support these events. Most importantly, artists will have a significant opportunity to make a positive impact on the community. Their active participation plays a vital role in ensuring and propelling an equitable and inclusive revitalization of Midvale’s Main Street.
Art House Open Hours
Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Art House Selection Committee
The Art House selection committee is responsible for developing and adopting the governing documents, including the policies and procedures that will regulate the Art House. The committee will also be responsible for reviewing and selecting all artists who will occupy the space. Additionally, the committee will work closely with the artists housed in the Art House to develop a schedule, ensuring that there are always two or more artists in the space during open public hours. In doing so, the Art House selection committee will have the ability to modify the open hours to ensure they are conducive to the schedules of the artists and for public visitation. Last but not least, the Selection Committee will also be responsible for selecting art to be displayed to the community.

Artist Bio: Brian Abel
Brian Abel was born in Augsburg, Germany, and currently resides in the United States at the foot of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains in Midvale, Utah. Abel earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Utah State University, graduating summa cum laude. His creative reflexes display themselves in a variety of visual art forms and mediums, ranging from mixed-media abstract sculpture to traditional oil painting.
Abel devoted nine years of his professional life to art education, teaching students of all ages to hone their technical skills while developing their passion and purpose. He has a deeply personal understanding of the impact art can have on a community, and is honored to have shared his work with the public in a variety of galleries and forums. Artist Bio: Ash Amos
Ash Amos, a 30-year-old artist from Salt Lake City, Utah, has spent the past five years captivating audiences with live paintings at music and art festivals. As the former resident and lead artist for Dreamscapes 2.0, an immersive art experience, Ash has showcased a talent for transforming spaces into otherworldly realms. Additionally, as a muralist and founder of Penrose Artist Co, Ash creates interactive art installations and supports fellow artists.
Inspired by nature and visionary experiences, with a particular fascination for bugs, flowers, and birds, Ash’s work features intricate details and a vibrant, surrealist aesthetic. Through his art, Ash aims to inspire creativity and evoke a sense of wonder. Excited to be part of the first group of artists at the Art House on Main Street in Midvale, UT, Ash looks forward to sharing this passion with the community. Artist Bio: Adrianne Freeman
Adrianne Freeman is a queer multimedia artist and Utah native who has been working full-time in the arts since January 2025. Her creative practice spans acrylic painting, watercolor, collage, and the traditional art of Pysanky egg decorating. Deeply inspired by nature, transformation, and symbolism, Adrianne’s work often explores the mystical in the everyday—like a barn owl flying through the stars.
She is a passionate advocate for accessible creativity, believing that art and art supplies should be available to everyone regardless of background or income. Adrianne creates community-focused experiences, including free art libraries and inclusive workshops, to help others discover the joy of making.
Artist Bio: J.J. Riggs
J.J. Riggs graduated from the Art Institute in 2001 with a B.A. in Computer Animation, where she excelled in 3D software and character animation. For more than 20 years she thrived in the tech world, leading award-winning design teams as a Creative Director and Product Design Director. Now she’s returned to her first love—making art.
A multimedia artist, J.J. embraces every joy that comes from creating, from the classical discipline of sight-size portraiture to witty, playful expressions of artistic humor. She is equally passionate about helping others ignite their own creativity, no matter their background or skill level. Drawing on her experience teaching art and graphic design at both secondary and post-secondary levels, she brings encouragement and practical know-how to every interaction.
J.J.’s corporate background also fuels her work as a mentor and facilitator. She has led design thinking workshops, team-bonding sessions, and collaborative innovation labs, blending art and strategy to help people tap into their own creative spark. Whether in the studio or leading a group, J.J. creates spaces where imagination and connection thrive.
Artist Bio: Shantelle Sommers
Shantelle Sommers, also known as Telli, is a mixed media painter and aspiring fashion designer based in Murray, Utah. Inspired by nature, love, and the simpler aspects of life such as colors and shapes. Telli transitioned to a full-time artist in October 2023. Since then, she has showcased her talents through live painting and vending at numerous highly attended events. At 24, Telli holds an Associate's degree in Social Work and seeks to merge her passion for social work with her love for art. She believes that creating art is vital for improving and maintaining mental health. Through her work, Telli hopes to inspire and motivate others to explore their own artistic expressions.
